Old Town Hall
The Old Town Hall in Gdańsk. This late 16th century building has been struggling with identity problems for centuries. It has been rebuilt many times to serve new functions and changing needs of subsequent generations of the city’s population. A venue for Town Council meetings? A storehouse for Hevelius’ beer? Building authority offices or an art gallery and concert hall? It has played all these roles over centuries. To this day, it has not come to terms with the existence of other town halls in Gdańsk, believing itself to be the first and only genuine one.
